So I am back from my travel break, which was both amazing and exhausting. Its going to take a long time to try and remember everything I did, so in the meantime I will update what happened between my last post and my 2 week adventure!
After a whirlwind trip to Rome, and staying up late to finish a paper Monday night, I woke up on Tuesday with the beginnings of a cold...but to be honest, I was surprised it hadn't happened earlier. The combination of 1. little sleep, 2. climate changes (going from Italy to Copenhagen made me realize just how cold it really is here!), and 3. constant travel aka: germs, was bound to weaken my immune system. I must have done something right though, because if there was any time to get sick, Tuesday morning was the best day to do it! I had finished my paper, had a fairly easy week ahead, and was planning on staying in Copenhagen the upcoming weekend. Luckily, Wednesday, which was the day I felt the worst, I was able to stay in my room all day and just chill out, catch up on sleep, and drink tea. Then Thursday, to my contentment, both of my classes were cancelled and I was able to do the same thing! Friday night and Saturday were also very low key, so by Sunday I was starting to feel better, and was ready for some fun activities.
Fall is my absolute favorite season - partly because it includes Thanksgiving, partly because it is beautiful to see the changing leaves, and partly..err actually mostly, because it makes me feel like being a little kid again. I associate the fall with the start of school, apple picking, pumpkin carving, crisp weather, and of course delicious food. Seeing as I am missing my favorite holiday - Thanksgiving - I have made it my mission to do any other Fall activity possible to make up for my lack of Turkey day this year...and that obviously meant apple picking was a must. I had been wanting to go so badly and asked two girls who go to Northwestern to come along. We had to take a bus, a metro, and then another bus to get there, and then we got a little lost walking (and also had a Danish hitchiking experience) but it was totally worth it! The apples were delicious, and that hour and a half reminded me of when I was in elementary school and we would go every year to the orchards nearby. I wanted more than anything to make apple crisp afterwards, but unfortunately I don't have an oven in my tiny kitchen. Pumpkin pie and apple pie will be greatly missed this year, but Copenhagen is the coziest city ever. There are candles everywhere, and the darkness - although not fun to wake up to, is almost enjoyable. I used to love rainy days when I was at school, because it makes you enjoy being inside (as opposed to feeling guilty for not being outside).
And after writing this post I am now dreaming about the pumpkin muffin I saw in the bakery window this morning. Guess where I am going tomorrow...
